Wherever You Can
Wherever You Can or "2020"
This year, for me, was something to aim for.
Something which had, at one point,
distance and hope.
20:20 - the prospect of perfect vision.
---
But health, politics, madness and division got in the way
and it didn't turn out the way it should, did it?
---
Yet, maybe, it did.
---
Because I think we saw how we can cope.
Each in a pod (large or small)
Isolated. Alone.
Or in the fray, too busy, too hurt
Either way, I'd argue,
too snared to find time to say what we need to
---
I think we saw how we could cull -
get rid of the stuff that was never truly needed.
---
How we could care, or not.
Smile, or not.
Hope, or not.
---
Me?
I found my depths and crashed in late July -
Tried to come off the antidepressants.
Didn't get advice or help from the doctors.
Just went ahead and did it.
---
Poor timing
For a simple quirk led to my demise
With my mood, always finely balanced, it was enough to send me down.
And a rough month followed and swallowed me.
---
An August with heart in throat, choking.
---
But hope is ever there
to found in the familiar;
with the family and friends who truly care
--
But it's also found, in most surprising of places -
an old recording, an online prompt, a new inspiring video
or three short words from a friend or stranger
can lift you
---
So, I'd say and beg of each of you -
"Find it where you can"
Adapt, roll your eyes, move on and smile
---
Remember, 2021 could, should, and maybe will be better.
It's going to be, well, complicated
Entangled, no doubt, and filled with it's own hope and challenges
Every year is.
---
So…
Remember to breathe
to stay safe
stay sane
Smile
and carry and share the hope
whenever you can.
